Sohail Warraich a valuable asset of nation, says Rector Dr. Asif Raza

Lahore ( Friday, May 10, 2024): University of Management and Technology (UMT) School of Media and Communication Studies ( SMCS) has confered the title of ‘Professor of Practice’ on renowned journalist and analyst Sohail Warraich at a ceremony on Friday.
The ceremony was attended Dr. Muhammad Niaz Akhtar, Vice Chancellor Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Mr. Mujeeb ur Rehman Shami, Mr. Hafizullah Khan Niazi, Mr. Attaul Haq Qasmi, Mr. Saleem Bukhari, Mr. Ajmal Jami, Mr. Salman Ghani, Mr. Mubashir Luqman, Mr. Salman Abid, Justice (Retd.) Nasira Iqbal and Mr. Fahad Shabaz.
UMT Rector Dr. Asif Raza, Chief Advisor UMT Lt. Gen. (R) Javed Hasan, Dean School of Media and Communication Studies Dr. Anjum Zia, Prof. Tayyab Bhatti Mr. Ahmed Suhail Nasrullah, UMT faculty, staff, and media studies students were also present.
Speaking on this occasion, Sohail Warraich thanked the UMT administration, particularly President UMT Ibrahim Murad, for the honor. He expressed his hope to play a significant role in shaping future media professionals for the nation.
UMT Rector Dr. Asif Raza talked about UMT’s commitment to providing an exceptional learning environment that prepares students to serve the nation with passion and dedication. “UMT is delighted to confer the title of ‘Professor of Practice’ on senior journalist Sohail Warraich,” Dr. Raza said.

Under Mr. Warraich’s mentorship and guidance, UMT’s School of Media students will be well-equipped to excel in the media industry”, he expressed.
Senior journalists and analysts, including Mr. Attaul Haq Qasmi, Mr. Mujeeb ur Rehman Shami, Dr. Muhammad Niaz Akhtar, and Mr. Hafizullah Khan Niazi, lauded UMT’s decision to appoint Mr. Warraich as Professor of Practice. They emphasized that both UMT and Mr. Warraich would benefit from this collaboration. They also highlighted Mr. Warraich’s immense value as a national asset. UMT students should seize the opportunity to learn from such a valuable resource, they advised.
Earlier, Dr. Anjum Zia, Dean School of Media and Communication Studies, welcomed the guests and highlighted that UMT’s media school has the honor of being the first school to confer the title of ‘Professor of Practice.’ She explained that a Professor of Practice is an individual who possesses both academic and professional expertise. “We are fortunate to have senior journalist, analyst, and author Sohail Warraich as UMT’s Professor of Practice,” she said. “From today onwards, Mr. Warraich will be an integral part of UMT’s School of Media.”
The ceremony concluded with Rector UMT Dr. Asif Raza, accompanied by Professor Anjum Zia and Mr. Tayyab Farooq Bhatti, presenting Mr. Sohail Warraich with a Professor of Practice gown, souvenir, and certificate.
